Prefered books say a lot about a person, especially a writer. It goes without saying that I recommend everyone read these books. Also, it’s quite possible that there are books I like more than these ones, I just sort of add these on a whim. My mental rating system fluctuates with my memory.
The Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices. These are my “role model” books. I want to write just like Cassandra Claire has written these, with humour, drama, characterization, and general writing style. I prefer The Infernal Devices, mostly because I love the time period and am hopelessly in love with William Herondale.
The Artemis Fowl Series. Charming, though the series seems to be declining.
The Maximum Ride Series. I am possibly the only person in the world who is “Team Dylan.”
The Hunger Games Series. I have the pin! I support the rebellion!
The Forbidden Game Series. I’m not the biggest fan of this author, but these were pretty cool. Is it weird that I want to name my future child Julian?
Calvin and Hobbes. Best. Comic. Strips. Ever.
The Fablehaven Series. The content is comparable with the cover art.
The Host. Like all of Stephanie Meyer’s books, I have mixed emotions about the romance, but The Host was sweet.
Septimus Heap Series. These are my favourite wizards. Better even than
Harry Potter Series. Who doesn’t love this series? Although, I find it annoying that the back of every good book has to say “Watch out Harry Potter, because…” Lots of great books have been written, and Harry still pwns.
The Bartimaeus Trilogy. I have never seen footnotes used with this much effect. They really enhanced the character and the humour. Marvellous concept and plotting as well. Unique!
Gone. So many loves. I love the way this book portrays young people, the way society regresses and is rebuilt, the radiation and mutation combination…
Warm Bodies. This is no mere zombie romance! (Wha?) This is an insightful commentary on life and love and is so much more than meets the eye. And, oh R, you are the most lovable zombie in history.
His Dark Materials. Unique, intense, an absolute adventure written by a man not afraid to rock a few boats.
